Outdoor Education Safety Management - Lands Edge Illawarra

Curriculum Based Field Studies

Land’s Edge is a provider of outstanding educational programs with, for the most part, a distinctive coastal or alpine focus. Land’s Edge offers programs with an emphasis on quality, enjoyment and innovative teaching styles for both primary and secondary schools (to HSC level).

Through its programming Land’s Edge aims to develop and promote an understanding of Australia's coastal and alpine environments in order that an affinity for and protection of these environments are fostered.

Land’s Edge Curriculum Philosophy:

  • Land’s Edge has a strong commitment to the environment and fosters this affinity with participants
  • Land’s Edge recognises and promotes the inherent role of the coastal and alpine environments as context for meaningful learning and useful education experiences
  • Programming aims to promote feelings of achievement and success through applied, not purely academic, results
  • A high standard of interpretive learning is provided allowing students to reach their own conclusions
  • All programming encompasses innovative, vibrant teaching styles, excellence and enjoyment

The Service:
All Curriculum Based Field Studies (CBFS) take the students and teachers out of the school classroom and into the outdoor classroom where the Land’s Edge team excels. Students are guided through the day’s outcomes via fact-finding/data collection activities. Clear, easy to follow booklets ensure that the students have a record of these first-hand observations, investigations, data collection and discussions. All CBFS’s include:

  • Teacher Summary of each particular study
  • Pre and post material
  • Student fieldwork booklet
  • All necessary appendices and equipment
  • Logistics and program details
  • Detailed location maps
  • Qualified and experienced teachers and instructors

The duration of studies varies from three hours to multi-day programs.

Aim:
Land’s Edge’s aim is to provide a service that makes the experience of chosing and implementing curriculum based field studies and easy and enjoyable one for school educators.
