Outdoor Education on Sydney Harbour

Land’s Edge Sydney Harbour Outdoor Education Programming

For the past four years, Land’s Edge has been developing and delivering high-quality outdoor education programming on Sydney Harbour from its Chowder Bay foreshore education and accommodation facility.

Here, in one of the world’s most iconic and important harbour environments, Land’s Edge works in partnership with a number of organisations to deliver a unique outdoor education product for primary and secondary school students.  Land’s Edge works closely on its programming in this location with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, Boolarng Nangamai Aboriginal Art & Culture Studio and the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.

This programming provides young people a new and exciting perspective of Sydney Harbour.  All programs in this location reflect the cultural, physical and historical spirit of Sydney Harbour and utilise the Harbour’s waterways, islands, foreshores and bushlands.

Land’s Edge Sydney Harbour outdoor education programs are usually between two and five days in length but as all programs are tailored for individual groups, longer programs can be arranged.  Both residential and expedition-style programs are offered.

Land’s Edge Sydney Harbour tailored programs are appropriate for the requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Accommodation
Residential program groups are accommodated at the Land’s Edge Sydney Harbour education/accommodation facility, which sleeps between 16 and 80 people.  Many groups undertaking Sydney Harbour programming also choose to spend a night or two on Cockatoo Island in the middle of Sydney Harbour in tent accommodation.  Groups participating in expedition-style programming can also camp with Land’s Edge in Sydney Harbour National Park.

Transportation
Given the ease of reaching Land’s Edge Sydney Harbour via public transport, Land’s Edge recommends the use of public transport to and from the facility.  In fact, Land’s Edge offers programming that encourages students themselves to learn the skills of travelling via public transport through the Land’s Edge Public Transport Challenge program. Alternatively, groups can access the facility via Sydney Buses, by private coach or vehicle, by ferry – or by foot.  If required, Land’s Edge can arrange all transportation to and from the facility.  Land’s Edge arranges all in-program travel.

Catering
Land’s Edge Sydney Harbour covers all catering and dietary requirements for programs in this location unless groups undertaking residential programming wish to self-cater at the Land’s Edge Sydney Harbour facility.  Land’s Edge adheres to the Australia & New Zealand Food Standards Code, meeting, in particular, Standards 3.2.2 (Food Safety Practices & General Requirements) and Standard 3.2.3 (Food Premises & Equipment).

Equipment
Land’s Edge provides all equipment required for Sydney Harbour programming including snorkelling, sea rafting, sea kayaking etc.  All camping equipment is provided for Cockatoo Island stays.
