At Land’s Edge we believe in conducting activities as a means of exploring and interacting with environments in different ways. Sure they are great fun, adventurous and challenging but essentially they offer the participant the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the environment in which they are in.
It is also a fundamental hope that through conducting the activities with this methodology two outcomes may occur. The first being that the students don’t see the place they are in as simply a playground – they begin to see and understand the beach or rock pool or bay’s role in and as part of the wider environment and it’s influence on our community.
Secondly, that the participants enjoy themselves to such a degree that we elicit the “I really want to do that again” response - motivating people to the extent that they want to pursue the activity further in their own time. A by product of this enthusiasm will be that the participant will revisit the said environment, learn to understand, enjoy and respect it further. The list below represents the core Land’s Edge activities all of which are chosen to draw out these kinds of responses.
