outdoor education for schools

This diagram represents the traditional opportunities for student's education outdoors.

It reflects how in the past, movement from one outcome to another on any one program was extremely limited.

Outcomes can only have been singular e.g. Adventure or Curriculum Links or Aesthetics & Personal/Social Growth.

Land's Edge recognises the value and acknowledges a place for Traditional Education Outdoors Outcomes but uses them in a more expansive framework (see below).

Realistic, multiple learning outcomes can be achieved by shifting the focus to the Land's Edge Key Components :

  • Appreciation
  • Investigation
  • Natural Places
  • Journeying
  • Experiencing
  • ‘Knowing' a place
  • Utilizing opportunities

By encompassing these key components within the Land's Edge Framework a higher level of service is achieved, hence the Land's Edge Education Model

The holistic nature of the philosophy promotes student learning and achievement on several different levels during any one program or program segment. It therefore allows programs to be implemented that realistically cater for the diverse requirement's schools have for their education outdoor's programs.

The Land's Edge philosophy demonstrates the distinctive ability to meet many learning outcomes in spite of external factors such as physical abilities, confidence levels, academic prowess, situational circumstances, prior experience or cultural background.
