At Land’s Edge safety permeates throughout the whole organisation. Safety plays a crucial role at all stages of program and activity implementation. In order for an organisation to have a truly holistic and therefore successful safety and risk management strategy, we believe Land’s Edge staff plus clients and participants have roles and responsibilities to fulfil.
Safety and Risk Management – Land’s Edge
In order to implement and assess our safety standards Land’s Edge has a comprehensive Risk Management Strategy. Key components to this Risk Management Strategy are:
- Documented Operating Procedures that includes;
- - Common Practice Manual
- Location Specific Safety and Emergency Procedures Documents
- Activity Risk Management Planners and Area Assessment Documents
- Suitably qualified and experienced staff
- Regular staff assessment and training sessions
- Industry best practice – client to staff ratios
- Comprehensive safety and first aid kits
- In-program communications and 24 hour support staff
- Exceptional standards of equipment with regular maintenance schedules
- External and independent Safety and Risk Management assessments
- Possess all relevant insurances including Public Liability and Workers Compensation
Safety and Risk Management - Participants
All participants in Land’s Edge programs or activities, whether they are involved in a 5 day Outdoor Education Program or a 2 hour surf lesson must take part in a safety briefing before commencing. This as an integral part of the learning processes Land’s Edge upholds in the organisation. In this briefing the following key safety outcomes are explored and promoted with the participants;
- An insight into the risks associated with the relevant environment
- An understanding of the risks involved in participating in the activity
- An awareness of the safety procedures and techniques required to remain safe
- A comprehension of both the individual and group responsibilities to minimise the risks of participation
