Surfing School

The Land's Edge Surf School was started in 1999 as part of a larger organisation – Land’s Edge Coastal Interpretation. The impetus behind the organisation was to help and encourage people to experience the thrills a coastal environment has to offer in a safe, enjoyable and educational manner. One of the directors of Land’s Edge Coastal Interpretation and the Director of the Land’s Edge Surf School - Antony Butcher, strongly believes that surfing and spending time in the waves is one of the best ways of making this happen.

Antony (who has surfed around Australia and overseas) has never competed in a surf event in either a local, state, national or international arena. Antony firmly believes that organised competition has nothing to do with enjoying surfing and having the skills and knowledge to run a safe, fun and successful surf school.

What Antony does hold is a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Outdoor Education, a Graduate Diploma in Education, Workplace Training and Assesses Certificate, First Aid Certificates, Surf Rescue Certificate, numerous Instructing Certificates including Surfing, Snorkelling, Canoeing, Bushwalking and Backcountry Ski Touring. Plus 15 years experience in taking people into natural places, instructing them in various activities, one of which is of course surfing.

Combine this expertise and experience with a professional team of instructors and loads of enthusiasm for all things surfing - the beach, waves, weather, surfboards etc and you have one of (if not the most) professional, organised, safe and enjoyable surf schools in the country.
